Transmission #006.

Transmission Time: 11:12.

...Found a hydroponics lab and more eviscerated bodies. Still no blood...

...all plant life dead and shrivelled...

...feel disorientated, only light source is a flickering fluorescent tube...

...need to get out of here, but I'm so scared, can barely move...

...I'm back where I found the first body - it's gone, just a smear on the floor...

...What the fuck is going on?...

...I'm lost, no clue where I am...

...Wait, was that...

Transmission #005.

 Transmission Time: 05:15.

...Found a body on the upper level...

...I thought they were lying there, sleeping...

...when I touched their shoulder they just rolled over...

...empty, bloodied eye sockets stared back at me...

...but worse, they were missing half their ribcage...

...something had scooped out all the internal organs...

...Gone. All gone. No blood...

...I don't want to die down here...

...Not alone and like this...

Unexpected Character Growth in my Cyberpunk Novel.

Copyright © Mark  R Kelly 2026.
Apparently when writing a story on the scale of a novel, not everything is written in stone, especially when it comes to characters.

I'll be honest and upfront, this 'story' has been dragging its feet over a couple of years on and off - more 'off' of late. From what I gather through various channels and sites set up by other writers/authors, the mid-point of a story/novel is a common sticking point for most writers.

The reason cited being the lack of excitement for the project; the novelty has worn off, and the thrill of writing something 'fresh and new' has now turned into 'stale and old'.

Transmission #004.

 Transmission Time: 22:10.

...I've lost count of how many days it's been...

...batteries died...

...managed to access the upper level...

...thought I was going to die...

...chased by something dark...

...out of food and water...

...so weak...

Transmission #003.

 Transmission Time: 00:09.

...it's useless...

...she's not talking. Not even a whisper...

...I can't do this anymore...

...I've been left behind. They've abandoned me. Bastards...

...my only option is to make it to the surface...

...catch up with them...

...kill them...

Building the City in my Cyberpunk Novel.

Chapter 11 has me nailed down to a standstill - currently. But honestly, it feels like a lifetime of staring at a screen, desperately willing the words to flow. I think I'd have more luck making a stone bleed.

Transmission #002

 Transmission Time: 18:46.

... I stumbled across a locked room. The lock was so old it broke without much effort ...

... this is impossible ...

... I now have access to a computer, and it has power ...

... this is not right. Screen says it was accessed yesterday ...

... I hear whispering again, but closer, getting closer ...

Transmission #001

 Transmission Time: 06:06.

... I dreamt about her again. Who she is I have no idea ...

... during my waking hours I find little things aren't where I left them ...

... sat at my computer I swear someone stroked my back, but when I turned there was no one ...

... still no contact with the outside world ...

... I refuse to go down the south corridor. I hear whispering. It stops every time I call out to it ...
